Follette Lab in the Land of the Rising Sun

Follette lab undergraduate Alex Del Franco, postbac researcher Cat Sarosi, graduate students Sarah Betti and Jada Louison, postdoc Connor Robinson, and PI Kate Follette (plus colleague and lab alum Kim Ward-Duong) all attended the Protostars and Planets VII Conference in lovely Kyoto Japan April 10-14. It was an awesome week of science and fun.

Kate lived in Kyoto for a year once upon a time, and very much enjoyed playing tour guide during the one morning and one afternoon we had off. Some photo highlights are in the gallery below.

Lest you think no science was done, however, know that every lab member at the conference presented a poster. Sarah Betti even won one of the eight poster awards (out of 750 participants - quite a feat!).

Everyone learned a lot from the excellent review talks, made great connections among leaders in the field, and ate many excellent convenience store breakfasts.

Kate was a coauthor on the PPVII chapter “Optical and Near-infrared View of Planet-Forming Disks and Protoplanets”, and especially enjoyed getting to meet her coauthors in person for the first time). Alex Del Franco (with summer lab partner Dane Mansfield) made the “money figure” of the chapter, which appeared in no fewer than 5 of the other chapter summary talks! We call that a win, folks.
